Spring brings with it not only May flowers and sunshine but the re-awakening of flea and tick season. I have managed my four-legged child, Amedeo, with natural remedies and avoiding the pharmaceutical preparations.

It is not hard to make excellent flea and tick sprays with organic essential oils.

A recipe that I use annually:

1 cup water

10 drops of geranium essential oil

5 drops cedar wood essential oil

3 drops lavender essential oil

3 drops lemongrass essential oil

Put in a spray bottle and apply with each walk outside. I use this on myself as well which also, repels, mosquitos.

Other recommendations:

  • More garlic in his diet - 1/2-1 tsp with each meal

  • Daily brushing

  • Regular de-worming

  • Clean dog bedding

  • Treat your carpets with a borax-like powder to reduce the flea population

  • Sprinkle diatomaceous earth along walls (internally and externally), under furniture and in crevices where your vacuum doesn't reach which kills the fleas

There are many options to use in order to reduce the use of toxic pharmaceutical preparations.

Happy Spring, and enjoy it with your pet without being concerned of any side effects that may be experienced.

Blessings.
